First Semester Reflections (D)
During my first semester, I struggled to get to grips with the course. I found the prospect of the course very daunting. However, as I settled into each module and gained a basic understand of them, this boosted my confidence up. I found the course to be very scientific which was a problem for me as I has not done science in a couple of years. This required me to do some extra reading around subjects, particularly anatomy to fill in some gaps that were missing in my knowledge. My peers were also very helpful by explaining anything that wasn’t making sense to me.
The hardest part of my first semester was biomechanics. This was due to no basic understanding of the topic and at the same point I was trying to learn anatomy. The module was highly anatomy based, therefore, without this knowledge, I struggled to keep on top of the work. Moreover, as my anatomy knowledge as broadened, I found the biomechanics to make more sense over time. (Grütter, 2019)
I really enjoyed the practical aspect of the first semester. We completed a large range of dissections, for example, limb dissection and organs. This was extremely helpful with revision as I found that the information on paper was very different to in real life. Therefore, my knowledge was consolidated.
Finally, my favourite module was canine behaviour. This was because I has already done a canine behaviour module at college therefore, I already had a base knowledge in the subject. I found this subject always very interesting and had fun on the practical side of things. Moreover, expanding on this knowledge at university was fantastic.
