Biomechanics Reflections (G)

Biomechanics was a difficult subject for me. We were set an assignment to choose an animal and talk about the biomechanics and gait analysis of this animal. A mentioned in my first semester reflection, I found the subject to be very anatomy heavy, which was problematic for me as I was still playing catch up for the most part of the term. I think my downfall was that I didn’t chose an animal that there was a lot of previous research and books on. I chose a dog and there is very limited information on canine biomechanics. However, during my research I found that there was a lot of research on horses. Following this, I found that a lot of this information relates to canines too, so was able to cross compare and relate one to the other.

The biomechanics exam was okay in the end, there were different sets of questions which allowed me to choose the questions that I thought I has better answers to.  However, as this was at a similar time to my anatomy exam I do feel as though I put in more revision for that subject that biomechanics. In future I will ensure that I spread my time more evenly across both subjects to ensure that I am covering all of the content evenly.

The biomechanics lectures where heavily equine based therefore I found it hard to engage sometimes as I wasn’t sure if the information was applicable to me. I would have preferred the lecture to be just the canine class and solely based on canine biomechanics. (Grütter, 2019)
